Mandarin School — Raising the standard for Chinese Education in Gloucestershire
The Mandarin school was established in 2001, to cater for the increasing demand for the learning of the official language of China — Mandarin Chinese, for various purposes.
Since its inception, the school has expanded enormously. The school is run by a team of passionate, dedicated volunteers with a team of experienced teachers. The school follows established curriculum and students typically progress language skills in four areas — listening, speaking, reading and writing. Academic assessments are carried out by teachers at the end of each year and full reports are provided to the parents. A large variety of teaching materials, textbooks and media tools are available to both students and teachers. Students are regularly informed of their progress and know what needs to be achieved to reach the next level of attainment.
Opportunities are provided to teach Mandarin Chinese for academic success as well as to develop cultural awareness. For children who find Foreign languages at school difficult, Mandarin Chinese makes a viable alternative — many schools are happy for children to sit GCSE Mandarin Chinese examinations instead of German, French or Spanish. All of the children’s classes work towards GCSE, AS and A Level.
